Sunnyside Up Cafe
Breakfast with a South African twist
42 Church St, Wolverton, Milton Keynes MK12 5JN

With so many different breakfast options around, there’s something to be said for the comfort of a decent fry-up. If you’re suffering after keeping it not-so-session at one of Wolverton’s many fine drinking establishments and can’t face any decisions more complicated than whether you want beans or tomatoes on your plate, you could do much worse than Sunnyside Up Café, the Braai Shack’s daytime iteration.

On a bright Saturday morning, the café is pleasingly busy, with everyone, from families and couples to groups of men in high-vis jackets, perusing the detailed breakfast menu. Covering all the classics - from different combinations of fry-up (Hash brown special for the win) and bacon or sausage baps, to the section titled ‘The Big Boys’ for plates that could feature in a Man vs Food style challenge - Sunnyside Up has got you covered. But if you fancy your fry-up with a bit of a twist, scan to the bottom of the menu for their South African breakfast specials. ‘The Hangover’ replaces the usual sausage and beans with boerewors and chakalaka (a spicy bean stew - basically your Heinz beans pimped with chilli and peppers), and is perfectly prescribed for the condition: the earthy boerewors will settle your stomach and the fiery kick of the chakalaka will wake up your tastebuds, leaving you feeling sunny side up!

Must-try: The aforementioned ‘Hangover’, although they do a mean ham and cheese toastie too.
